Happy Halloween - from Phyllis Lane
I carved two pumpkins today, mine and Maka's. Maka was too busy playing around with the piano, so I decided to carve her's myself :-) I can't complain, though, she made my favorite for dinner, CAVLETTI!! Just when the food was ready to eat, our first group of trick or treaters came - in a group of about 20. One of our neighbors (Tom) graciously volunteered to pull all the kids on a halloween hayride with his tractor. Tom pulled right up our driveway with all the kids in the back, and a few others following by foot. Before the doorbell rang, we saw a little red headed kid peeking in the window, looking for candy. Most of the kids were really young. Their parents were really happy to meet us finally, one commenting on the yummy smell of Maka's food.
Our second group of kids were a bit older - maybe 10 or 12 years old. Then we had two girls come dressed as bunnies. They were probably 13 or 14 years old. They were the first trick or treaters i've seen without bags for candy. They were carrying their candy in their hands. I offered some Big Y bags, but they were happy holding what they could with their hands. The last group as of this writing consisted of two bananas, a kid in a zoot suit, and a laundry basket. We got more kids than we expected. We bought a mixed pack of 120 chocolate bars. I was expecting maybe 12 kids max. So far I think we've had closer to 30. Not bad for our first Halloween in town.
In the oven I have the seeds from the pumpkins roasting. I lightly toasted them with some butter, oil, and salt. They should be good later when we settle down to watch some scary halloween films on TV.
Let's see, anything else of note from today... nothing that I can think of at this moment. Enjoy the spooktacular pics below and if you get a chance, you can bring the Halloween "spirit" to your house with some Halloween songs like Bobby Pickett's Monster Mash, the Halloween film series theme song, or Michael Jackson's Thriller.
